MP launches campaign to distribute 11 lakh copies of Ramayana
Meerut, Jan 23: Actor-turned-politician Arun Govil has launched a nationwide campaign to distribute copies of the Ramayana under the “Ghar-Ghar Ramayana” initiative. The campaign commemorates the first anniversary of the consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. On Wednesday, he distributed copies of the Ramayana in Hapur. On Thursday, Govil, who played the role of Lord Ram in the iconic TV series Ramayan and is now a BJP MP from Meerut, held two programmes in the Kithore Assembly constituency of Meerut. (PTI)
Stray dogs maul 3-yr-old to death
Mathura, Jan 23: A three-year-old boy was mauled to death by stray dogs while playing outside his house in the Kosi Kalan town of the district, police said. Ashish Sharma, Circle Officer (CO) of Chhata, said, “The incident occurred around 3 pm on Wednesday when the boy, identified as Sofiyan, was playing outside his home (in the Eidgah Colony). A pack of six stray dogs surrounded him, attacked, and dragged him, leaving him grievously injured.” Other children who witnessed the attack informed the boy’s family, Sharma added. The local municipal administration has been informed of the incident and urged to implement effective measures to control stray dogs and prevent such tragedies. (PTI)
Afghan staying illegally in India gets 11-month jail sentence
Mumbai, Jan 23: A court here has sentenced an Afghanistan national to 11 months in jail for staying in India illegally. Habibullah Prang (38) was convicted under Indian Penal Code, Passports Act and Foreigners Act by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Esplanade Court) KS Zanwar on Wednesday. The detailed order has not been made available as yet. The court directed the prosecution to take deportation action against the accused, if he is not required in any other case, after he serves the 11-month sentence. (PTI)
Man gets life term for raping two minors
Godda, Jan 23: A court in Jharkhand’s Godda district Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment till death for raping two minor siblings about two years ago. The incident happened at a village under the jurisdiction of the Motia police outpost. The court of special judge (POCSO)-cum-district Judge-1, Pawan Kumar, found Bidhan Chandra Chaudhary guilty of the crime and sentenced him to life imprisonment till death. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2 lakh on him. (PTI)
