9 injured in mishap
Gangtok: Nine people were injured when a jeep collided with a truck near Orange villa at 7th Mile near here on Tuesday, police sources said.
The jeep carrying passengers was on its way to Sang in East Sikkim from Gangtok when it collided with the truck coming from Ranipool near Orange villa about 12 km from here.
All the injured including the jeep driver have been admitted to Central Referral Hospital at 6th Mile Tadong, the sources said adding the condition of one of the injured was critical. (PTI)
Mizoram likely to be on Indian hydrocarbon map soon: Hiato
Aizawl: With nine foreign and indigenous companies undertaking exploration works in Mizoram, the state is likely to be on the Indian Hydrocarbon map soon, State Industries Minister S Hiato said here on Tuesday.
Addressing a meeting of the Mizoram state Geological Programming Board, Hiato urged the geologists and the mining engineers to harness the natural resources of the state with due consideration to environment protection.
The companies have been undertaking exploration of hydrocarbon in an area of 12,427 sq km which is about 58.9 per cent of the state’s total geographical area. (PTI)
HC CJ lauds Gaon Burah institution
Itanagar: Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Madan Bhimrao Lokur has lauded the Gaon Burah (GB) institution as a pioneer in delivering justice at grassroots level. Addressing the inaugural day of a two-day legal awareness programme for head GBs and GBs in West Siang district on Monday, the CJ said the institution has withstood the test of time as an agent of the district administration despite absence of a comprehensive written record on justice delivery system.
He urged GBs to go along with other agents of administration and avoid conflicts to deliver justice at their level. Deputy Commissioner Amjad Tak in his address stressed on the need to generate awareness on law and its implications to make the GBs more conscious agents of the government. (PTI)
Women Society signs MoU
Kohima: Nagaland State Co-Operative Bank Ltd (NSCB) and Chakhesang Women Welfare Society (CWWS) signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 30.
In press release, Nodal Officer of NSCB V K Dison said here today the bank was taking up such initiatives to cover ‘un-banked’ blocks of the state as per Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directives on financial inclusion.
The MoU was signed by Managing Director NSCB B K Thadani and Executive Director CWWS Vechulo-u Kanuo with a view to cater to the credit need of farming community so as to improve the socio economic condition of the rural people through Self Help Group (SHG) in the rural un-banked areas of Nagaland and to cover all such areas under Phek district.
