SHILLONG: With the State Government already rocked by the scandal surrounding the illegal appointment of teachers, a fresh case of alleged nepotism has now surfaced against the Education department.

Sources have revealed that two assistant mistresses (teachers), who were recently appointed in Pine Mount School, are the daughters of Director of Higher and Technical Education, CCM Mihsil and a Joint Director of the same department.

The father-mother duo oversaw an interview panel for prospective teachers and allegedly ensured permanent jobs to their offspring, raising doubts over their competency. The move has also tarnished the image of the prestigious government school. A total of 77 candidates appeared in the three-day interview process from January 8-10 and the sisters bagged the only two appointments on offer.

The Education department had selected an assistant teacher in April 2013, but the post was deemed to be contractual and a new interview for a permanent appointment was called for in January this year.
