SHILLONG, Feb 1: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday hailed the Union Budget presented on Friday, while the state BJP also praised it as a “historic” budget.
Sangma expressed gratitude to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for announcing the modified UDAN Scheme, which aims to enhance regional connectivity through helipads and smaller airports in hilly, aspirational, and Northeastern regional districts. He said the scheme would significantly improve connectivity and strengthen ‘Destination NE’.
He described the budget as growth-oriented, emphasising its focus on agriculture, MSMEs, connectivity, and youth opportunities. Initiatives such as the PM Dhan Dhanya Yojana, enhanced MSME credit, and UDAN would play a transformative role in Meghalaya’s development, he said.
The state BJP unit also lauded the Union Budget 2025, calling it middle-income group-friendly. State BJP Media Cell Convenor Sabyasachi Ghose described it as “historic” and a blessing for the middle class.
“The party expresses its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for considering the interests of all sections of society, especially the middle class,” Ghose said. He further stated that the BJP is confident the budget will provide a significant boost to the country’s economic growth, given its people-friendly policies.
