Meghalaya play Mizoram today

SHILLONG: Sikkim proved why they cannot be taken lightly, as Manipur were unable to score against then until the 74th minute of their Group B clash in the Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament in Aizawl on Saturday.

However, it was almost a forgone conclusion that the powerhouse of North Eastern football would come through the contest, with Satish Singh scoring the winner.

There are only three teams in Group B, with the defending champions now claiming top spot in the group and a spot in the semifinals.

Sikkim will play Assam in the final league stage game on February 11 to decide which is the other team to make it through.

Meanwhile, in Group A, Meghalaya and Mizoram, the top two states in that half of the competition, will face off on Monday.

The two sides have already qualified for the semis, with Mizoram leading the table on goal difference. A win for Meghalaya will ensure that they progress as the top team with three wins from three games.

Tripura and Nagaland, already out of the running, will play in the earlier match.
