Shillong, Feb 3: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Monday predicted that the Voice of the People Party (VPP) will lose very badly in the four constituencies represented by its MLAs in the upcoming district council elections.
The four constituencies are Nongkrem, Mawryngkneng, North Shillong and Mawlai.
After filing his nomination as the National People’s Party candidate from the Nongthymmai constituency, Syiem said people have seen the true colour of the VPP.
He claimed that people faced difficulties in the four constituencies represented by the VPP MLAs. He said the party made many promises before the 2023 Assembly elections but none of them was fulfilled.
“I am pretty sure that the electorate will give a befitting reply to the VPP in the district council elections,” he said.
He slammed the party for allegedly misleading people through social media in the previous elections. According to him, the voters across Khasi and Jaintia Hills will not be fooled again on the false propaganda which the VPP is trying to spread against other political parties.
Reacting to the VPP’s demand to implement Article 371, Syiem said the people of the eastern region of Nagaland, where Article 371 is applicable, now want the implementation of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
“This clearly shows that Sixth Schedule is better than Article 371 to protect the interests of the Khasi indigenous tribes,” he added.
