Shillong records season’s lowest temperature in Feb

SHILLONG, Feb 8: A cold wave has gripped Meghalaya, with temperatures plummeting sharply across several parts of the state.
Shillong recorded a minimum temperature of 3.4°C on Friday, marking a 3°C drop in just 24 hours and standing 3.5°C below normal. This is the lowest temperature recorded in the state this winter.
Earlier this month, Shillong had recorded 4°C on February 2 and 5.4°C on February 3. Such extreme cold is usually experienced in January, but this year, February is witnessing the season’s lowest temperatures.
Sohra (Cherrapunji) also saw a significant dip, with the mercury dropping to 5.0°C, which is 2.8°C below normal for this time of the year.
In contrast, Barapani recorded a temperature rise, reaching 6.7°C, which was 3.4°C higher than the previous day and 1.6°C above normal.
With temperatures fluctuating unpredictably, residents have been advised to take precautions against cold-related ailments as the chill persists across the state.
