SHILLONG, Feb 8: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Meghalaya Police, which has been tasked with probing the alleged Rs 2,300-crore “scam” involving the Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road project, is expected to take more time to complete its investigation.
A source on Saturday confirmed that the inquiry is under way and is likely to be a lengthy process due to the complex nature of the case. “This kind of investigation takes considerable time. It is currently under investigation, and no details can be divulged at the moment,” the source said.
The case, which involves intricate financial and technical aspects, has been under scrutiny since September last year, when the state government directed the CID to probe the alleged multi-crore “scam”.
According to the FIR, nine individuals, including senior government engineers and officials from two private companies based in Telangana and Haryana, have been named in connection with the case. The ongoing investigation is expected to examine financial transactions, project execution, and deviations from approved plans.
Originally, the project was estimated to cost Rs 1,303.83 crore, but multiple cost revisions led to an increase in expenditure, bringing the final cost to Rs 2,366.77 crore—a significant escalation from the initial estimate.
