SHILLONG: KHNAM MDC from Laitkroh constituency, Carmelstone Sohtun said that he has decided not to contest the upcoming district council since his effort to retain the Laitkroh constituency failed.
“I had tried my level best to retain the constituency. But the court has passed an order that the delimitation exercise would come into effect,” Sohtun said while taking to newsmen here on Wednesday.
He said that it was difficult for him to contest since there were many new areas in which he would not be able to campaign in the very last minute.
“Despite not contesting the election, I have decided to continue to serve the people and work for the party. I would work to form the unit of the party in various areas of the constituency while preparing myself for the 2018 MLA election,” the KHNAM MDC said.
Earlier, the KHNAM MDCs had met Governor KK Paul and reiterated their opposition to the delimitation exercise of the KHADC.
The MDCs had also approach the court pleading for quashing of Sohtun.
