SHILLONG: Concerned over attacks on people from Northeast in Delhi, the State Governor Dr K K Paul has urged Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and city police to ensure security of the people of the region living in the national capital.
“I am writing to you to express my concern on behalf of the people of my state and would urge upon both the Union government as well as the Delhi Police to take adequate steps to create a conducive atmosphere for people from Northeast to pursue their studies and occupation in Delhi and elsewhere in the country in peace and harmony,” he wrote in his letter to Shinde on Wednesday.
Stating that a large number of youngsters from Meghalaya including Shillong are in Delhi for their studies and employment, the governor, a former Delhi Police Commissioner, stressed on the need to allay their concerns immediately.
He also welcomed the recent decision by the Home Ministry to hand over the case to the CBI and he urged the Union Government as well as Delhi police to take adequate step to create a conducive atmosphere for people from the North East.
