Shillong, Feb 17: The VPP on Monday urged the District Election Officers (DEOs) of West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills to provide adequate security in the 67 sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations across the 17 constituencies ahead of the JHADC polls to be held on February 21.
In a letter submitted to the two DEOs, VPP general secretary, Ricky AJ Syngkon said that free and fair conduct of election is vital for a well-functioning democracy.
“I strongly urge you to provide adequate security arrangement to prevent any attempt to curtail the free and fair exercise of the right to vote by the electorate and to prevent any possible attempt of booth capturing or any other activity that has the potential to subvert the electoral process,” the Lok Sabha member said.
The party has submitted a list of 21 sensitive polling stations in seven constituencies in East Jaintia Hills and 34 sensitive polling stations in nine constituencies in West Jaintia Hills.
The party also submitted a list of 12 highly sensitive polling stations in Shanpung constituency alone.
