SHILLONG, Feb 20: The state government has appointed D Lyngdoh, Joint Secretary of the Education Department as administrator to supervise the closure of CMJ University in accordance with the recent ruling of the Supreme Court.
Vijay Kumar Mantri, the Commissioner and Secretary in-charge of Education, stated in a notification that the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to name D Lyngdoh as administrator of the CMJ University in accordance with the Supreme Court’s ruling dated 13.02.2025 and Section 48 of the CMJ University Act, 2009.
According to Kumar, the administrator would carry out the university’s winding up in a way that has been authorised by the state government.
The top court had previously dismissed the Meghalaya High Court’s order for a review and maintained the Meghalaya government’s 2014 decision to close the contentious CMJ University due to “mismanagement, maladministration, indiscipline, and fraudulent intent”.
