Williamnagar, Feb 24: Social activist, Nilbath Ch Marak has written to the Director General of Police (DGP) Meghalaya seeking action against the officer in charge of the Williamnagar police station in East Garo Hills over his alleged inaction on a complaint filed by him against CEM of GHADC, Albinush Marak over threat to his life.
Early last month, Marak had lodged a complaint with the PS after he received a call from the CEM where Albinush could be heard making threats to the activist. The incident took place on Jan 22 and a complaint filed the next day, January 23.
However despite his complaint, Marak alleged that no coercive action has been taken by the police in the matter.
“Albinush has been harassing me repeatedly and trying to fulfill his malicious intent of finishing me off. The rule of law should prevail and the men in uniform should act as per the rule of law, irrespective of their status or rank. Surprisingly despite CEM trying to harm me through various channels, the police have not taken any action against him,” alleged Marak in his complaint.
Marak stated that the police inaction was sending the wrong message to the people of the region as it is indicative that the rule of law is not applicable to those in power.
Through the complaint, Marak urged the DGP to direct the Williamnagar PS and the OC to take strong action against the CEM for his attempts at threatening his life and for abusing the office of the CEM of GHADC.
