NEHU hosts Natl Conclave 2025 on teacher education

SHILLONG, Feb 27: A two-day-long National Conclave 2025, themed ‘Transforming Teacher Education Towards Viksit Bharat 2047,’ was organised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) in collaboration with North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) at the Multi-Convention Hall, NEHU, Shillong, on February 27-28.
The programme commenced with an inaugural function, which saw in attendance Governor CH Vijayashankar as the chief guest. The ceremony began with the National Anthem and the lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by the Head of the Department of Education, NEHU, Prof BB Kharbirymbai.
Prof N Saha, Acting Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Shillong, also extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and delegates. In his address, he envisioned India as a self-reliant nation where education would play a crucial role in nation-building. He stressed on the use of technology and the significance of the Indian Knowledge System in shaping a developed India.
The Chairperson of NCTE spoke about the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and the role of NCTE in revamping teacher education. He highlighted that this National Conclave was the first of its kind in the eastern region and reaffirmed NCTE’s commitment to transforming teacher education through the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP).
In his inaugural address, Governor Vijayashankar reflected on his school days and emphasised the importance of physical education and music, which are now key components of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
He stressed that consistent hard work and collective effort are essential for the successful implementation of the policy.
