TURA, Feb 27: Social activist Greneth Sangma on Thursday urged police to act on an earlier FIR filed against a fake doctor attempting to dupe youths with jobs, claiming that new leads have been unearthed with regard to the case.
Earlier, Greneth had filed the FIR against one Hirak Sangma, after WhatsApp posts and call recordings of his attempts to lure youths with jobs in return for money, went viral on social media. A thorough investigation also revealed that the so-called doctor, identified as one Hirak Sangma, was not a medical practitioner and also had no affiliation at all with the Ampati Civil Hospital, as was claimed.
“After conducting a thorough investigation, I have confirmed that the individual posing as a doctor is an imposter. His real name is Benjamin G. Momin, resident of Badaka PO, Adokgre, under Kharkutta Police Station, North Garo Hills. Our investigation revealed that he has been falsely claiming to be a doctor to deceive others and demand favors, including job exchanges, for many years. He has been using this fake identity to exploit and cheat innocent people,” Greneth claimed, in his second FIR on Thursday.
Greneth, in his FIR, urged the police to immediately freeze the accused’ bank account and carry out his arrest by tracking his location.
Ampati SP clarifies
In response to recent media reports regarding an impersonation case involving an individual posing as a doctor at Ampati Civil Hospital, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of South West Garo Hills, Vikash Kumar, has issued a clarification regarding the location of the FIR filing.
Several media reports stated that the FIR was filed at Ampati Police Station. However, SP Vikash Kumar has clarified that, as per the original FIR document, the case, dated February 26, 2025, was actually registered at Baghmara Police Station, South Garo Hills, and not Ampati Police Station.
Meanwhile, Kumar said that investigations into the impersonation case are underway, and legal action will follow based on the findings.
