JOWAI, March 1: Newly elected VPP MDC from Narpuh Constituency on Friday shot off a letter to Shillong MP Ricky AJ Syngkon apprising him of the issues faced by the residents in the border areas near Bangladesh.
In the letter, MDC Deivipaya Tongper mentioned that the people living near the Indo-Bangladesh border, especially in Umkiang, Dona, and Lum Soskie, are facing difficulties due to the illegal entry of Bangladeshis into their villages.
She pointed out that around 50-60 Bangladeshis entered Umkiang villages at around 2 a.m. on February 22. There were attempts to harm the residents of the village, she added.
The letter stated that the BSF has not yet taken action regarding the issue, and this could lead to further unrest if the situation continues.
Tongper has strongly demanded the MP take the matter seriously and intensify peace and security measures for the residents in the border areas.
