‘Ki Umjer’ storms into IGT semis

SHILLONG: Meghalaya’s Acapella group – “Ki Umjer” has entered the semi final in the famous India’s Got Talent reality show.

From a humble beginning of being part of the church choir, seven lads from the state has made it to the India’s biggest talent hunt, India’s Got Talent (IGT), a reality television series on Colors television network.

Called ‘Ki Umjer’ literally meaning dew-drops, the group comprising of Iaineh Kharumlong, Khrawborlang S Dkhar, Shatborlang Lyngdoh, Employermen Kharumlong, Bobby More Kharbani, Mcdondor Kharumnuid and Shanskhemlang Rynjah entered the semi finals of IGT and are set to enter the finals provided they get the support of people through votes.

Formed in 2005, Ki Umjer which is a seven member group started their journey by performing for Church’s choir in different platforms and competitions in the state till last year when they were spotted by the Kingdom Talent’s Hunt management.

“We have been given the golden buzzer by the three judges during the mega audition and we appeal to the people of the state and the north east as a whole to give us the golden vote,” Iaineh Kharumlong appealed at a news conference on Wednesday.

He said that their performances will be aired on Color TV on February 22 and the voting lines open at 9 pm to 9am on February 23. Viewers and supporters can send an SMS by typing UMJ and send it to 56882 or they can also vote online http://colors.in.com/in/indias-got-talent/, he added.

These lads from Mawlai Mawtawar, specialises in A Capella, a singing style wherein there is no instrumental accompaniment. They use their voices to emulate instruments and focus on harmonizing since 2009.
