Meghalaya to host International Mongoloid meet

SHILLONG: Aimed at bringing all Mangoloid tribes under one platform, Tura, West Garo Hills will host the first ever three day International Mongoloid meet from February 28.

Along with the Mongoloid meet, the 6th International Bodo Festival will also be held on the occasion.

Information and Publicity Secretary for the programme, Vicky Rose Sangma said in a statement issued here on Wednesday that the meet will be held at A’song Innang Norang, Ballonggre, Tura on February 28, March 1 and 2.

The event hosted by Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) will see the participation of Mongoloid tribes including Boros, Dimasas, Morans, Sonowals, Deoris, Thengals, Karbis, Tiwas, Rabhas, Lepchas, Bhutias, Reangs, Burmans, Jamatiyas, and Rais, among others.

Several guests from Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh are expected to congregate for the unique event.

Indigenous games from different tribes, indigenous attire show, ethnic food and wine festival of tribes, cultural dance show and others will form part of the festival.

According to publicity secretary Vicky Sangma, the purpose is to bring together the people of Mangoloid stock (Tibeto-Burman) who are spread across the Northeastern states and the neighboring countries.

This will be a platform to understand further the culture of various Mongoloid tribes closely which will bring further unity among them, he said

“Various tribes of the Northeast are from Mongoloid family. Due to some reasons, the tribes were spread all over the Northeast and the neighbouring countries. The International meet will be a common platform to understand the religion, culture and dance forms of the tribes,” Sangma said.
