BJP MLA Tapasi Mondal joins TMC
KOLKATA, March10: BJP’s Haldia MLA Tapasi Mondal, a close aide of the leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari, joined the ruling TMC on Monday.Mondal’s decision to join the TMC dealt a heavy blow to the BJP’s organisation not just in Purba Medinipur, Adhikari’s stronghold where the port town of Haldia is located, but also to its legislature party in which she played a key role with assembly elections in the state due early next year.She joined the TMC at its headquarters in Kolkata in the presence of state Power Minister Aroop Biswas.“I decided to be a part of the chief minister’s developmental initiative,” she said, justifying the switching of sides. Man kills girl, offers blood on temple steps
BODELI, (Gujarat) March 10: In a suspected case of human sacrifice, a man murdered a five-year-old girl by slitting her throat and offered her blood on the steps of a temple in Chhotaudepur district of Gujarat on Monday, police said.The accused, Lala Tadvi, abducted the victim from her house in the tribal-dominated district in the presence of her mother in the morning.Tadvi, who was later arrested, took the girl to his house and inflicted fatal injuries on her neck using an axe, police said.He then collected the blood gushing out of the girl’s neck and offered some of it onto the steps of a small temple located in his house even as her mother and a few other villagers looked in shock, but could do anything as he was wielding an axe.The exact motive behind the murder was not yet clear, police said, adding an investigation was underway. Couple killed, their two children injured in truck-SUV collision
SONBHADRA, (UP) March 10: A couple was killed and their two children were injured when a truck rammed into their SUV on the Ranchi-Rewa highway here on Monday.The accident occurred near Kolinduba village when Nageshwar Gupta (48) was returning home with his wife Munni Devi (42) and his two children after attending a religious event.As their vehicle reached near Harnakachar village late night, it collided with a truck, killing the couple on the spot, while the two children sustained critical injuries, police said.The truck driver fled the scene with the vehicle, and efforts are underway to nab him, police said. Man arrested for raping woman in Kolkata hotel
KOLKATA, March 10: A man in his mid-50s was arrested on the charge of raping a young woman from Delhi inside a hotel room in south Kolkata’s Bhowanipore area.The man was known to the victim.The accused had called the woman in her early 20s to the hotel on the pretext of offering her employment and raped her on Friday.Acting on the complaint about the lodged by the victim, the accused was arrested on Sunday night.The victim is a resident of Delhi and is working at a pub here. Recently, she started looking for better placements and requested the accused for assistance in that regard. (PTI)
