SHILLONG, March 10: TMC senior legislator Charles Pyngrope has urged the state government to involve all stakeholders in creating a land bank under the Meghalaya Investment Promotion Authority (MIPA).
Pyngrope suggested that the government should also identify projects for infrastructure development from the land bank.
He emphasized that stakeholders should be confident that their land will be acquired through due process.
He stated that the Meghalaya Transfer of Land (Regulation) Act, 1971 ensures that tribal land will remain with them, and no entity not can purchase land under the Act.
If infrastructure is to be developed, the land acquisition process should follow the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, he said.
He advised stakeholders to refrain from selling their lands to the government if they have doubts.
