ONGCL veterans win cricket tourney

HILLONG: The 19th PSPB Inter Unit Veteran Cricket Tournament concluded on Wednesday afternoon with the spritely ONGCL team beating HPCL in a low-scoring final by 12 runs.

ONGCL batted first but could only put up 114/9 in 20 overs. Man-of-the-Match Amrinder Singh top-scored with 30 runs, while Pradeep Rane took 3/21 and Usman Shaikh 3/12.

Despite needing less than six runs an over, HPCL struggled to score at a good rate and finished on 102/4 in their 20 overs.

PV Bole made 39 of those runs, with Maykar claiming 2/23.

Earlier in the day, in the third place play-off, BPCL beat Oil India Ltd.

BPCL were put in to bat and scored 126/4 in 15 overs, with Sudhir Tanna making a fine 81 from just 55 balls.

W Ao had the best figures of 1/20.

In reply, OIL were restricted to 89/7 in their 15 overs, with B Vist contributing 30 runs from 22 balls. Kirit Patel shone with the ball, taking 3/16.

At the prize distribution ceremony following the finlal, BPCL’s Kirit Patel took the Best Bowler award over the course of the tournament.

W Ao was named Best Fielder and Sudhir Tanna bagged the title of Best Batsman.

An evening of cultural delights was held on the evening before the last day at a city hotel, with the players of all the participating teams being treated to local Khasi and Garo folk dances.
