SHILLONG, March 17: In a bid to expand its agricultural footprint beyond India, a delegation from Meghalaya is in Dubai until Tuesday to explore international trade opportunities.
The visit, organised by the Meghalaya State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, aims to strengthen market linkages, promote the state’s organic produce, and connect local farmers directly with global buyers.
The delegation’s visit comes on the heels of a major breakthrough in November 2023 when MSAMB signed an MoU with Lulu Group International to facilitate the export of Meghalaya’s agricultural products to Dubai.
The visit seeks to build on that success by exploring new market avenues and expanding export opportunities for the state’s organic and GI-tagged produce, including Khasi Mandarin, Lakadong Turmeric, Organic Ginger, and Pineapple. The UAE, a key trade hub with a rising demand for organic and premium agricultural products, has been identified as a potential long-term market.
The delegation, which includes government officials, Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) representatives, and agribusiness entrepreneurs, will participate in promotional events at Our Wellness Village Café in Sharjah on March 17 and Lulu Hypermarket, Silicon Oasis, Dubai, on March 18.
These platforms will provide an opportunity to showcase Meghalaya’s produce, engage with buyers and retailers, and establish new business linkages.
