SHILLONG, March 21: The Meghalaya government has decided to put the mandatory immunisation requirement for obtaining birth certificates on hold for two months.
A notification issued by Commissioner and Secretary Joram Beda stated that the decision was made to facilitate the immediate Aadhaar enrolment of newborns, which is essential for accessing Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
In this regard, the government has directed all district registrars of births and deaths to issue birth certificates to all applicants, regardless of the child’s immunisation status.
The order further clarifies that while the immunization status may be recorded separately and pursued as part of routine immunization drives, it will not be linked to birth certificate issuance. Additionally, health and ICDS officials have been instructed to continue immunization awareness campaigns to ensure that all children receive timely vaccinations.
