Xaxa panel submits interim report

New Delhi: The seven-member Virginius Xaxa committee, which was constituted in line with Sachar Committee to prepare a position paper on the current socio-economic, health and educational status of tribals, has submitted its interim report to the Centre.

This was informed by Rajya Sabha member from Meghalaya Ms Wansuk Syiem here on Saturday.

The Committee, headed by eminent sociologist Virginius Xaxa of the National Advisory Council, is expected to submit its final report in May this year.

The report will be placed before Parliament after due process, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Ms Ranee Narah informed Wansuk in Rajya Sabha during Question Hour.

The Sachar Committee was constituted to prepare a report on the latest social, economic and educational condition of the Muslim community of India. The committee, headed by the former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Rajinder Sachar, had six members.a
