SHILLONG, March 29: Troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier on Friday confiscated 285 Yaba tablets and rescued 19 cattle in separate anti-smuggling operations near the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Acting on specific intelligence, personnel of the 144 Bn, BSF Meghalaya, launched a search operation in South Garo Hills district, leading to the recovery of a black plastic packet concealed near a tree.
Upon inspection, the packet was found to contain 285 Yaba tablets, a highly addictive narcotic intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
The seized drugs were later handed over to Gasuapara Police Station for further legal proceedings.
In another intelligence-based operation, BSF Meghalaya thwarted an attempt to smuggle 19 cattle across the border in West Jaintia Hills district during the early hours of March 28. The rescued animals were handed over to the concerned police station for necessary action.
“This successful operation indicates BSF’s vigilance and dedication in preventing infiltration of narcotics and safeguarding the local communities from the harmful effects of drug trafficking,” the BSF said in a statement.
