SHILLONG, April 2: An appeal for job reservation for indigenous youths in 70:30 ratio in non-tribal businesses and firms operating within the jurisdiction of the KHADC was made by the Hynniewtrep Youths Development Council (HYDC) on Wednesday.
HYDC representatives met KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Shemborlang Rynjah to voice concerns over the limited employment opportunities available to indigenous youth.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, HYDC president Wyraiwan Sohtun praised the current Executive Committee for its decision to halt the issuance of trading licences for businesses and trades that local indigenous youth can manage independently.
He also underscored the importance of enforcing the revised minimum wages announced by the state government to benefit local workers.
The HYDC president noted that while the CEM acknowledged their concerns, he did not provide an immediate assurance, stating that the matter would first need to be discussed within the Executive Committee.
