Police help five murder accused to cast votes

SHILLONG: Five of the accused of a murder case of Thangbnai village near Jongksha under Mawkynrew constituency, who were out on bail were prevented to cast their votes by the Sordar of the village during the elections held for KHADC on Monday.

The five accused were involved in the murder of their own relative identified as Lobster Pyngrope over a land dispute in November 2012.

Three of the accused who were prevented to cast their votes then took up the matter with East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang.

“Due to the intervention of the SP, the three with the help of the police were able to cast their votes,” IG Eastern Range A Sunn told newsmen.

When contacted, Kharkrang informed that they were involved in the murder case which had taken place in the village two years ago.

Pyngrope was murdered when he had left his house along with his wife to go to Mawlyngngot weekly market.

On their way, the five accused hit Pyngrope with a stick on his head and then the victim was dragged to the room of the house of the main accused identified as Speak Pyngrope.

Though the villagers gathered and Sordar Shnong requested, the accused did not open the door. He came out only after the arrival of the police.

Besides Speak Pyngrope, others who were arrested in connection with the crime included Phrangsngi Pyngrope, Mong Pyngrope, Rojak Pyngrope, Philis Pyngrope ,and Saian Kshiar.
