SHILLONG, April 6: Encouraged by the success of managing a GI Tag for the Ryndia, the state government is now coming up with a textile hub in Nongpoh.
Textiles Minister, Paul Lyngdoh said that there will be a variety of textile related activities in the hub including spaces for weaver and artisans to showcase their products.
“Visitors would be able to see how the colouring and dying is done,” he said.
Informing that some big names from the industry have approached the state government with offers for collaboration, Lyngdoh said the government will adopt more villages and turn them into weavers’ hub.
Commenting on the recent GI Tag for Ryndia, Lyngdoh said the recognition will give the weavers outlook in their trade which will ensure exclusivity of product and marketability.
