SHILLONG: All North East Indigenous Garo Law Promoter’s Association (ANEIGLPA) on Tuesday met Governor Dr. KK Paul and urged him to remove Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma and his brother and Excise Minister Zenith M Sangma from their posts.

During the meeting with the Governor, ANEIGLPA general secretary Edbirth D Shira stressed that in order to have a free and fair inquiry into the validity and authenticity of the caste certificates acquired by the Chief Minister and his brother, both of them should be removed from their respective offices.

Shira said that the issues which need a fair probe include changing of the surname of the Chief Minister’s mother Roshanara Begum to Sangma in the marriage certificate and tampering with the electoral rolls of the then 58-Ampati constituency for the year 1983 and 2004.

“He (Dr Sangma) had also convinced the Manda Mahari to support the validation of the tampered marriage certificate. The Chief Minister is also responsible for coercing the members of the Manda Mahari to support the concept of Deragata or adoption in the case of Roshanara Begum,” the ANEILGLAP general secretary said.

The ANEILGLAP also observed that both Dr. Sangma and his brother (Zenith) should have resigned on their own owing moral responsibility when the allegations first came to light.

The association also submitted a memorandum to the Governor in this connection.
