Ri-Bhoi: Truck hits scooter from behind; woman killed on spot

NONGPOH, April 13: A 29-year-old woman tragically lost her life in an accident along Shillong Bypass on Sunday evening after a speeding truck rammed the scooter she was on from behind. The woman, identified as Sidora Langstieh (29) of Nongsder village, Block-B was accompanied by a man named Singh Laloo (30) from Umroi Nongrah, who sustained serious injuries in the mishap.
Singh was riding the scooter (ML05AA9898), while Sidora who was seated behind him. They were on their way from Umroi Umdohbyrthih to Umroi Nongrah. However, upon reaching a stretch near Tyndai Resort along the Shillong Bypass, their scooter was hit from behind by a truck that immediately fled the scene.
Officers from Khapmara Police Investigation Centre responded swiftly to the site of the accident and began an investigation. Preliminary findings confirmed that Sidora died on the spot, while Singh suffered critical injuries. He was immediately rushed to Bhoirymbong Community Health Centre (CHC) for medical treatment, and Sidora’s body was taken to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for necessary legal formalities and post-mortem procedures.
Following the incident, the Khapmara PIC in coordination with the Umiam Police Station launched an intensive manhunt to trace the absconding truck. Alerts were sent out to police stations in Mawryngkneng and Mawlasnai to aid in locating the vehicle.
