TURA, April 15: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Mendal Region Unit, has written to Education Minister Rakkam Sangma, seeking the introduction of morning and evening shifts at Don Bosco School, Mendal, in North Garo Hills to accommodate the surge in students who passed the recent SSLC examinations.
“We seek a permanent solution to the issue. The limited availability of seats and classrooms has resulted in students being unable to secure admission, despite having passed the SSLC exams. These students come from predominantly economically disadvantaged backgrounds making it impossible for admissions elsewhere,” felt the GSU members.
Consequently, these students are forced to seek admission into DBS – Mendal, which is the only viable option.
“Yesterday, we met the principal of DBS – Mendal who expressed his willingness to introduce morning as well as evening classes, pending approval from higher authorities. We thereby seek your intervention into the matter so that the student community, struggling with admission issues, gets some respite,” said the CSO in their letter to the education minister, submitted on Tuesday evening.
