JOWAI: Violet Lyngdoh has become the giant killer when she defeated the sitting MDC and former JHADC chief Hambertus Nongtdu by a margin of only 48 votes from Rymbai Khliehriat constituency.

The victory of Ms Lyngdoh, who left her teaching job to join politics, has created a history in JHADC being the first woman ever elected.

Speaking to The Shillong Times soon after the declaration of results on Thursday, Lyngdoh said, “My victory will set an example to the women folk to come forward and take part in politics”.

“My victory is the result of hard work put forth by my fellow women,” she added.
