SHILLONG, April 20: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) is expected to convene soon to discuss the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) findings, recommendations, and observations for the financial year ending March 31, 2020.
KHADC Opposition leader Titosstarwell Chyne, who also chairs the PAC, said he will finalise the date for the first meeting of the newly reconstituted committee within the next couple of days.
“Let the committee meet first. Once we study the CAG report in detail, we will disclose the recommendations we intend to make,” Chyne said.
He added that the PAC would thoroughly examine the CAG’s findings and decide on the appropriate course of action.
Chyne acknowledged that the CAG had raised concerns about irregularities in the utilisation of central grants and in the recruitment process for filling vacant posts within the council.
He noted that the PAC may recommend corrective steps to the Executive Committee based on its examination of the report.
It is worth mentioning that the CAG had specifically recommended the formation of the PAC to ensure proper follow-up on its audit findings.
The reconstituted PAC comprises three members from the ruling side — Juristman Iawphniaw, Denzil R Chen, and Eddieson Kharumnuid — and two from the opposition — Grace Mary Kharpuri and Ricky Shullai.
