 SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister BM Lanong on Thursday donated two computers to Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre (RKMVCC) here.

It may be mentioned Lanong had promised to provide the same when he was the chief guest during the celebration of Swami Vivekananda’s 110th visit to Shillong on April 27 at the same venue.

In his speech, Lanong said “in Meghalaya people come and serve for their own purpose and for their own benefits only, but there are some who come and think about the indigenous people – they think and work for these people. “We have seen Rev Fr Vincent Kympat, Bishop of Jowai Diocese, who passed away recently in Jaintia Hills. Likewise the Maharaj of RK Mission is also serving here similarly for the welfare of the indigenous people. We welcome such institutions,” said Lanong.

Swami Achyute-shanandaji Maharaj, Secretary, RK Mission, Shillong informed that the institute has a plan to construct a five-storied building at the backyard of the present RKMVCC building to accommodate around 1800 students who are presently undergoing computer training.

“This new building will not only serve the students but also will be utilised for more development activities of youths,” he said adding that the institute has sought support and help from the government in this regard.
