SHILLONG, April 23: Tura MP Saleng Sangma on Wednesday criticised the authorities for failing to ensure that the elderly and ailing receive basic services at their doorstep.
Sharing a video of an elderly woman who had to travel 30 kilometers from Dobu to Williamnagar just to collect her pension, Sangma said that banks are showing no compassion toward those in need of pension services.
“The old and sick are the victims of this system — and the system has failed them,” he stated, adding that he had convened a DISHA meeting, but some banks failed to attend.
Taking serious note of the banks’ indifferent attitude, Sangma has now demanded an explanation from the concerned authorities.
