99 teams lock in for Tura cricket tourney

Tura, April 24: The third edition of PA Sangma Memorial Day & Night cricket tournament, which commenced on April 22 at the Parade Ground, Tura, will see a record 99 teams vying for the trophy.
The grand inaugural ceremony was aattended by enthusiastic crowds, participating teams, and distinguished dignitaries. This year’s edition carries a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh for the winner and Rs 1 lakh for the runner-up. Cash prizes for individual performances will also be handed out at the end of the final day, about 2 weeks from now.
The opening ceremony was graced by Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma, who was the chief guest, and Cabinet Minister Marcuise N Marak, who served as the guest of honour. The event featured vibrant performances, an inspiring address, and the official unveiling of the tournament trophy in tribute to (L) PA Sangma.
On the evening of April 23 at around 6 PM, the tournament paused for a minute of silence to pay tribute to the brave martyrs of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. The gesture was a heartfelt mark of respect and solidarity, observed by all players, officials, and spectators at the venue.
The tournament will continue till May 5, offering high-intensity cricket under floodlights and a shared spirit of unity, remembrance, and community.
