SHILLONG, April 26: The Meghalaya High Court has appointed Kishore Chandra Gautam as a special officer to catalogue items at the Diagnostic Centre, operated by Suraksha Salvia LLP at the Pasteur Institute in Shillong.
The court directed Gautam to visit Block-A at Golf Links and submit a detailed inventory report before the next hearing.
The division bench of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh emphasized the importance of the special officer’s appointment to investigate any breach of its April 9 order and take corrective action if violations are established.
The court mandated an initial remuneration of Rs 25,000 for the special officer, payable by the petitioner.
The bench also ordered that status quo be maintained regarding the construction, renovation, and possession of Block-A, as well as the items currently housed there.
The court also instructed local police to assist the special officer if called upon.
The controversy stems from claims that the state government began shifting the petitioner’s belongings from Block-A before the order.
The matter is scheduled to be examined on May 9 after the special officer’s report is submitted.
