SHILLONG, April 27: Seng Khasi Laitkor Pyllun on Sunday celebrated Shad Suk Mynsiem, the sacred dance of thanksgiving, at their local ground with around 500 dancers. The event, rich in tradition and symbolism, honoured the Khasi values of righteousness, community ties, and reverence for the Creator.
Young women adorned in traditional crowns (Ka Pansngiat) and male dancers with swords and quivers performed to the rhythms of traditional musicians (Duhalia), symbolising purity, protection, and cultural pride.
The celebration also paid homage to the ancestral deities ‘Thawlang’ and ‘Iawbei’. Leaders from Seng Khasi Kmie, Seng Khihlang, Nongkrem MDC Kitborlang Syiem, and Paiem Habapan Syiem of Khyrim Syiemship attended the ceremony. First held in 2007, Seng Khasi Laitkor Pyllun continues to nurture and preserve the Khasi indigenous faith through this annual event.
