SHILLONG: The GNLA has decided to serve an ultimatum to the Government to make clear the latter’s stand on holding talks with the militant outfit.

In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, GNLA political affairs secretary, Bikdot Nikjang Marak said that in a recent meeting the GNLA resolved to serve ultimatum to the Government to make clear its plans on holding talks with the outfit.

“We adopted a democratic principle and accepted the invitation of Governor Dr. K.K. Paul. But it is ridiculous that the Government especially Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma has lowered and undermined the Governors’ appeal,” Marak said.

It was on January 26 that the Governor, in his Republic Day speech, had appealed to the GNLA to come to the negotiating table. Following this, the GNLA had expressed its desire to hold talks with the Government.

Questioning the stand of other militant groups including ANVC, ANVC-B, and ASAK, among others, on various issues confronting Garo Hills, the GNLA leader said that the militant outfit stands for separate Garoland.
