SHILLONG, April 30: Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) has been awarded the ISO 21001:2018 certification, by the Bureau Veritas Certification for its Educational Organisations Management System (EOMS), becoming the first university in Meghalaya to be ISO certified.
The journey began at a leadership retreat in Umrynjah on September 29 of 2023, where the MLCU board members and senior officers resolved to pursue ISO 21001:2018 accreditation.
Guided by ISO consultant Gautam Chakraborty, awareness programmes for senior management, heads of departments, and other staff were conducted. After a series of gap analyses, standard operating procedures and manuals were drafted.
MLCU underwent its Stage 1 Audit from February 5-6, 2025, conducted by Bureau Veritas under Lead Auditor Subrata Majumdar. Subsequently, the Stage 2 Audit was conducted from March 10-13, 2025, by Lead Auditor Tamal Sen.
After identifying 148 non-conformities during Stage 2, MLCU resolved them within a month. On April 25, 2025, the MLCU officially achieved ISO 21001:2018 certification.
