Eight held on assault and looting charges

JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills Police on Monday night arrested eight persons for allegedly assaulting and looting one Pius Dhar of Takhniang village at Mukroh village on Friday last.

The arrested persons have been identified as Damehi Lathong, Orting Suchiang, Karnot Tang, Edana Tyngkan, Bahlieh Lyngdoh, Rakesh Singh, Hamrit Bhoi, Drim Suchiang and Wadsik Suchiang who came in a Tata Sumo driven by one Deimonmi Bhoi of Saba village, assaulted Dhar. They also looted Rs. 50, 000 from the complainant.

Police are yet to arrest another two persons, Drim Suchiang and Hamrit Bhoi as they were found absconding from their village. All the arrested persons were forwarded to the court and they were remanded in 14 days judicial custody.
