Job scam: MPF to move resolution in Assembly

SHILLONG: The Opposition Meghalaya People’s Forum (MPF) will move a resolution in the Assembly on education scam demanding the removal of Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh under whose tenure as Education Minister, the illegal appointment of teachers took place.
The Budget session of the Assembly will commence from Friday.
After a meeting of MPF on Tuesday evening, the Leader of Opposition Dr Donkupar Roy said that the demand of the Opposition is that either Ampareen should step down or she should be removed.
The Education Department has already sent termination letters to as many as 246 teachers, but ironically, only 25 teachers will be appointed against 246 vacancies.
Though services of the teachers were terminated, no action has been taken against the concerned Minister for clearing the files related to the illegal appointments.
The CBI inquiry report on education scam had named Lyngdoh and education official JD Sangma foir their role in tampering of the mark sheets of eligible candidates to appoint candidates recommended by politicians.
Though the Government had claimed that it had initiated steps to take action against three education officials who were involved in the scam, they is yet to be terminated from services unlike 246 teachers who were appointed in 2009-2010. “We need to fix responsibility on the persons who are behind the scam, hence we have decided to move the resolution demanding the removal of then Education Minister”, Roy said.                          Law and order problems, growing militancy in Garo Hills and non- functioning of many departments including PWD, Health will also be raised in the Assembly by the Opposition.       The recent reports about members of KSU joining HNLC will also be taken up under the motion on law and situation, Roy said.
