SHILLONG, May 6: Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday announced several tourism-related projects for East Jaintia Hills.
The projects include the upgrade of Umbyrlein Falls (Rs 5.79 crore) and the development of Rynji Falls (Rs 9.64 crore), Moopun Falls (Rs 6.44 crore), and Sahksaw Falls (Rs 8.38 crore).
The announcement was made during the inauguration of a new futsal football ground at San Shnong Secondary School in Mukhaialong, under Wapung C&RD Block.
Lyngdoh emphasized that such investments are crucial for the state—not only to boost tourism but also to support the emergence of talented sportspersons.
Cabinet Minister and East Jaintia Hills MLA Kyrmen Shylla also acknowledged the government’s efforts in developing community and sports infrastructure.
The Meghalaya government has ambitious plans to invest Rs 4,000 crore in tourism infrastructure over the next two years. This includes the construction of high-end accommodations in major tourist destinations such as Sohra and Umiam.
The funds will primarily be used to create infrastructure in key locations, including Umiam, Sohra, Dawki, New Shillong Township, and the Garo Hills.
The Rs 4,000-crore investment will be sourced from the Ministry of Tourism and the state government under a 90:10 funding pattern, with additional support from external funding agencies.
