LAHORE, May 9: Pakistan’s former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, is urging his younger brother, incumbent Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to strengthen diplomatic ties with India amid the ongoing military conflict. Sharif attended a security huddle at the Prime Minister’s House and advised his brother to ease tensions with India. Tensions between India and Pakistan have risen significantly following India’s Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Pakistan attempted to attack 15 Indian cities but failed.
Sharif wants the government to use all available diplomatic resources to restore peace between the two nuclear-armed states. He has returned to Pakistan from London to dial down tensions and has attended a high-level civil-military meeting in the PM House to assess Indo-Pak tensions. The National Assembly unanimously backed Pakistan’s military response to India, calling it a show of national unity.
Pakistan has rejected reports in the Indian media that it has attacked multiple places in India, stating that such claims are “entirely unfounded” and part of a “reckless propaganda campaign.”
The country remains vigilant and committed to peace, but it will not be deterred by attempts to provoke, intimidate, or mislead and reserves the right to respond to acts of aggression. (PTI)
