SHILLONG, May 11: The State BJP on Sunday stated that political parties should not refrain from participating in all-party committees like railways, emphasising that their involvement is crucial for democratic decision-making.
“I feel political parties should not refrain from participating in such committees as the government has invited all political parties to freely express their respective opinions which is the essence of democracy ,” said BJP chief spokesperson, Mariahom Kharkrang.
He said, “After getting all views then only government can come out with a good decision which will be in the best interest of the people.”
It may be mentioned that the opposition VPP and the Congress have opted out of the all-party committee on railways. The government had recently notified the formation of an all-party committee to examine railway connectivity in the State.
The committee has been tasked with examining and proposing solutions for the introduction and construction of railways in Meghalaya, conducting a cost-benefit analysis, and seeking inputs from all relevant stakeholders before submitting its recommendations to the state government.
