SHILLONG, May 15: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given its approval to the Shillong Government College of Engineering (SGCE) to commence civil and technical engineering courses, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma confirmed on Thursday.
With the approval, the first batch of students will be enrolled at SGCE located in Mawlai’s Kynton Massar locality.
The AICTE had, earlier, flagged infrastructure deficiencies at SGCE, leading to delay in grant of approval. The state government continued to push for approval while addressing the issues in parallel.
Sangma said that the college is ready to start after AICTE’s approval, and the college will rectify the infrastructure gaps identified in two AICTE scrutiny meetings held in January and February.
He informed that Additional Director of Polytechnic and Shillong Engineering College, WL Warjri will assume additional charge as Principal of SGCE.
