SHILLONG, May 22: Newly inducted Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) trainee officers on Thursday called on Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma at his chamber in the Assembly Secretariat, Shillong, as part of their ongoing induction training programme.
The Speaker warmly welcomed the officers, presented each with a personalised letter of appreciation, and offered words of encouragement.
The interactive session also provided the officers an opportunity to seek guidance and clarify queries on legislative and administrative matters.
The visit of the MCS trainee officers was preceded by a key lecture from Commissioner and Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Dr. Andrew Simons.
Addressing the MCS officers, Batch of 2025, at the Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI), Mawdiangdiang, Dr. Simons focused on the legislative process in Parliament and the vital role civil servants play in supporting the Assembly.
He urged the officers to engage deeply with legislative procedures, highlighting their importance in a democratic framework.
It may be mentioned that the training programme at MATI is designed to equip the officers with a strong foundation in administration, governance and public service, ensuring they are well-prepared to serve effectively.
As part of this initiative, the 35 MCS trainee officers have also undertaken field visits to various districts in Meghalaya to gain firsthand experience of district-level administration and grassroots governance.
