Pakistan, Azerbaijan pledge to deepen strategic ties

ISLAMABAD, May 28: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev met in Lachin on Tuesday to reaffirm their countries’ commitment to diversifying their strategic partnership, particularly through investments in mutually beneficial sectors. The leaders reviewed the full scope of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the growing cooperation in political, economic, defence, and cultural spheres.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that Pakistan and Azerbaijan have consistently supported each other and will continue to do so. He thanked Azerbaijan for its strong backing during the recent Pakistan-India confrontation, acknowledging the solidarity shown by both the Azerbaijani leadership and public.
Both sides agreed to initiate delegation-level talks to enhance Azerbaijani investment in Pakistan, with discussions expected to be organized soon. The meeting took place ahead of a scheduled trilateral summit involving Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkiye on Azerbaijan’s Independence Day.
Sharif extended warm greetings to President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on their national day. The leaders highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts to promote regional stability, mutual prosperity, and shared stances on key international issues. They concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to deepening the Pakistan-Azerbaijan partnership and advancing collective goals at both bilateral and regional levels. (PTI)
