Apropos the ‘letter to the editor’ dated March 8th, 2014 by T. Khongsngi, ‘A job scam or misleading the public’, we are a group of affected candidates and enjoy no patronage from any quarter except the quota of the government made available to us for which we desire to come and work in our state after our studies. We had duly applied for the post of Grade-III MAS (Meghalaya Agricultural Service) and this was in response to the advertisement No. MPSC/ADVT-38/1/2012-2013/1 dated April 20th, 2012. Posts in the government are usually advertised when they are lying vacant but the MPSC then was in no rush to conduct the exams. Complying with the advertisement, we have submitted whatever was required and a rejection list was brought out only in March 25th, 2013, vide letter No. MPSC/D-5/3/2011-2012/34 dated 25th March and another rejection list was brought out on June 20th, 2013, vide letter No. MPSC/D-5/3/2011-2012/50. Strangely enough, 22 months after the advertisement, we were called for a written exam by the MPSC, vide letter no. MPSC/D-5/3/2011-2012/ dated Jan 10th, 2014 fixed for 7th Feb 2014 for English and the subject matter. But a week before the exam was to be held, on 29th Jan, 2014, in a letter No. MPSC/D-5/3/2011-2012/ we were informed that there will be a personal interview between 17th to 21st Feb, 2014. Again, the next day i.e. 30th Jan, 2014 we receive a notice vide letter no. MPSC/D-5/3/2011-2012/ that the Commission has decided to dispense with the written examinations with respect to the above mentioned recruitment. Personal interview was supposed to be conducted at 9:30 am but the selection board members were never on time leading them to rush things without proper evaluation of the candidates. We appreciate the promptness of bringing out the results within a week after the interview i.e. on 28th Feb 2014 though we had to wait for two years after the advertisement ,whereas, some of us passed out in 2008 and were also concerned about the age limit but we were surprised to see some of the names that were earlier on the rejection list had managed to pass this time around. We fail to realize on what grounds and on whose official order or who issued letters to call back the non-qualified candidates. We had hopes of a free and fair system of governance from the government and expect no manipulations and mal-practise in the recruitment process which usually prevails every time.
