SHILLONG, June 2: The Committee on the Cenotaph in Tura has submitted its second Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of the new memorial.
Cabinet Minister Marcuise Marak, who is heading the committee, revealed that the first DPR was rejected by civil society groups. Following that, the committee entrusted a local architect with the task of preparing a revised DPR, which has now been submitted.
“Today itself, we have handed over the DPR to the Chief for his consideration,” Marak said.  Initially, around Rs 2 crore was sanctioned for the project, but the budget has since been reduced to approximately Rs 1 crore.
The new Cenotaph will be a simple war memorial, accompanied by some beautification work. “Once the sanction is approved, the committee will hold its third sitting, and the work will begin as early as possible,” Marak added.
